Boys Basketball Wins MVL Championship
The RCS Middle School Boys Basketball Team won the Mountain Valley League Championship game on Tuesday, February 21. They defeated a tall and talented team from Riverside Christian 57 to 52 to take the title.

The Cougars, coached by 5th Grade teacher Matt DeBoer, finished the season with a 19-1 record. Their only loss came in an overtime game vs. Ontario Christian in the Ontario Tournament. In the playoffs, the Cougars easily defeated Linfield Christian in the first round. They held off Joshua Springs in the second round, winning by six.

While the championship victory served as the apex of the team’s success, it was only the last game of a remarkable season for the Cougars.  Redlands Christian began their run with some key non-league victories early on.  The momentum carried on into league play.  The Cougars captured the Mountain Valley League title with a perfect 12-0 record.  Season highlights included victories over Arrowhead Christian, Ontario Christian, Pasadena Christian, and Joshua Spring Academy.

Redlands Christian style of play could be characterized by pressure defense, solid shooting, and unselfish play.  The statistics back it up.  The Cougars scored an average of 65 points per game on the year. Matching the offensive efficiency, the defense limited opponents to only 38 points per contest.  The team did not rely on one player to carry them, rather it was a total team effort each game.  Each player worked extremely hard during each practice and every game.  Most importantly, the team represented the name of Redlands Christian School very well.

Team members include Jesse Sears, Brandon Mason, Kevin Williams, Kevin Sims, Michael Keirns, Luke Spoelstra, Christien Pena , Steven Cavarno, Michael Palmer, Troy Miller, Adam Flathers, Dean Griego, Joe Freds, Andrew Cavarno (stats). Head Coach Matt DeBoer, Assistant Coach Mark Witvlet.
