Spanish American war

     The Spanish American war set off directly because off the argument over Cuba. In the Spanish territory Philippine Islands was where the first battles off the war took place. Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt had alerted commodore George Dewey to be ready for the war two months before it began. Dewey was stationed in Hong Kong and left for the Philippines and on April 30 within a week arrived at manila bay after the U.s. official declaration of war.
