Life in Company Towns

Companies built towns for their workers to live in and the factory was their work. They still had to pay their rent and buy food and clothes. One company tried to please their workers by making their surrounding life comfortable. The workers still complained about their conditions. Men usually fell in debt because their wages were not sufficient enough to pay their bills. They were expected to live off a couple of dollars for two weeks after paying their rent.

A company town.
