Farming On the plains

Technology Transforms Farming

Some farmers could invest in new technology and found huge success. Oliver Dalrymple and the Northern Pacific Railroad made a farming project in the Dakotas in 1874. For example,Oliver used self-binding reapers to cut, gather, and bind the stalks for wheat. With this idea, he made over 100 percent in his first year. Following this, Eastern bankers bought almost all the land in the Red River Valley in North Dakota. They created huge factory farms  that were profitable. Railroads were built leading from the north to there and made it easy for farmers to ship their goods.
