The End of Populism

 During 1893’s Depression, the Populist Party gained popularity.  Also most people were out of work and lost faith in Cleveland. In 1896 Democrats nominated Bryan for president. “Free silver” was one of the things he supported. The Populists supported the Democrats because they took their main idea. They didn’t do well in the election. The Republican candidate was McKinley. Bryan traveled 18,000 miles and gave 20 speeches a day. McKinley told his speeches to supporters and they traveled for him. The election ended with McKinley winning. The Populist party ended with gold being found in Alaska thus increasing the gold reserves.
