The 7th Graders Tour the Getty Museum

On Wednesday, March 14 th, the RCS seventh graders boarded the bus, the Yukon, and the minivan for the road trip down to the J. Paul Getty Museum in northern Los Angeles. We arrived safely and had an early lunch before we rode the tram up the hill for our scheduled site tour focused on the beautiful architecture and the landscape of the gardens. We were divided into three groups where we informed how the architect used Italian travertine marble, aluminum, and glass in the building design. Ask a student about the number 30 and how many signature or special blocks he/she found. Did he/she find any fossils? Was he/she able to do the flower maze?
After the site tour, we divided into our four gallery groups. The students went on a gallery treasure hunt to find answers to the questions in a packet of worksheets. Monets, Reniors, Van Goghs, Brueghals, Rembrandts, illuminated manuscripts, ornate furnishings, glass, ceramics, sculptures, and more filled the four pavilions.
There was so much art to see and not enough time to see it all. Hopefully, this was the first of many visits to the Getty that these students will experience in their lives. It is a wonderful place to see the talent that our God has gifted artists with. It is amazing that there is no admission fee for the Getty except for the price of parking & a tank of gas. What a great place to spend a day!
