7th Graders Study Local History

During the week of March 13-19, while the 8 th graders were on their Washington DC Trip, our 7 th graders were focusing on local history.  We spent two days off campus visiting a variety of locations that are important to Redlands’ history.  Students enjoyed learning about the citrus industry through a tour of a local orange grove and packing plant.  A downtown scavenger hunt opened their eyes to the historic buildings along State Street.  The Lincoln Shrine and Smiley Library tours gave seventh graders a peak into the lives and contributions of our 16 th president and Redlands’ “patron saints”, the Smiley brothers.  The Burrage Mansion was perhaps the most impressive site we visited.  We were allowed to roam the grounds, explore the many bedrooms, and walk around the basement of the huge home.

Redlands History Week was a great experience for seventh graders to learn about those who helped make Redlands what it is today.  A big “thank you” to everyone who helped by driving and chaperoning students during the week!  We couldn’t have done it without you.
