Saturday: The trip got off to a great start this morning! Ray Leenstra sent us off with a prayer (above, left) and we were out of the parking lot by 6:45 and to LAX by 9:00. The flight could not have gone more smoothly; we landed around 6:13 PM in Baltimore and headed to the Washington Monument for a brief photo opp (below, right).

Sunday: Our first full day in Washington D.C. went incredibly well. One of the highlights of the day was attending the 8:45 church service at the National Cathedral. We were welcomed by the head Reverend of the church during the service and three of our students were chosen to deliver the communion bread to the alter during the service. Each student, parent, and most of the teachers will be well-rested and ready for a new day come 6:30 tomorrow morning. |
|
Monday: Four students were chosen through an interview process to participate in the laying of the wreath ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery. It was great to see all of the students so passionate about and respectful of such an honoring ceremony.

Tuesday: Gathered at the top of the Capitol Building steps, our group lifted up our country’s leaders. Several students were asked to pray for the president and vice-president, our congressmen, our armed forces, and the choices being made by those people. It was a great way to end our stay in Washington D.C.

Wednesday: Today was a travel day, driving from Washington D.C. to New York City. One of our only stops of the day was a photo opportunity at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA. This bell is one of the greatest symbols of the freedoms we experience daily. |
|
Thursday: After a long day of shopping on 5th Ave. and walking around the city, the students looked forward to getting cleaned up and heading downtown to see The Lion King on Broadway. The play impressed the students with its brilliant costumes and remarkable scenery.

Friday: The highlight of today, our last day of the trip, was enjoying a boat tour of New York City. We rode by the Statue of Liberty and saw a great view of the city from the waterway. Students enjoyed getting their picture taken by the statue on the upper deck. The weather could not have been more perfect for this tour, ending our trip wonderfully.
