From January 5 through January 14, the Middle School students raised money for the Tsunami Relief Fund by competing in the penny game. Each homeroom in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade competed against one another by seeing which homeroom could earn the most points. A point was awarded for each penny that was placed into the homeroom's jug. However, silver coins and dollar bills counted against you. If you had a nickel in your jug then you lost five points, if you had a dime you lost ten points, etc. In the first two days, students turned in over 28,000 pennies and raised over $600. AND... it only improved after that. It was great fun each morning. Friday, January 14 was fantastic. Student Council Members along with parent volunteers and others counted money all day! The class who won the most points was promised a Pizza Party. On Friday, Mr. Wier's winning class voted to donate the cost of the Pizza Party to the Tsunami Relief Fund as well. |
